2025 in Review
2025 is nearly done, so it feels like the right time to look back and take stock.
The Blog
I kept my promise to post at least once a week. I missed two weeks — one when we were on holiday and one when the kids were off sick and the house descended into chaos — but broadly I kept to it.
Total post count for the year: 54. That's more than one a week on average, which I'm pleased with.
The posts I'm most proud of are the ones where I took a position on something and defended it properly rather than just describing a thing or sharing a link. The notification culture piece got more replies than anything else I've written, which tells me people are thinking about this stuff too.
Projects
Pure Blog got a lot of work this year. It's at a point now where I'm genuinely happy with it as a piece of software and not just as "my blog engine."
I also finally got my homelab in a stable, sensible state after years of it being held together with string.
What I'm Taking Into 2026
Less tweaking, more shipping. I have a habit of endlessly refining things instead of putting them out into the world. I want to break that in 2026.
I also want to read more. I managed 12 books this year which sounds fine until you realise that's almost exactly one a month and I could do better.
Here's to 2026. Happy New Year. 🎉
