📚 The Martian

Author: Andy Weir
My rating: 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 (excellent)

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive — and even if he could, there's no food to last him until a potential rescue.

With ingenuity, determination, and a healthy dose of dark humour, Mark must somehow survive.

I feel a bit embarrassed that it took me this long to read The Martian. Everyone I know who's read it told me to read it years ago, and they were right.

It's relentlessly fun. Weir clearly did his homework on the science, and Mark Watney is one of the most likeable protagonists I've read in years. The kind of book you stay up too late reading because you just need to know what happens next.

Highly recommend. Now I need to watch the film.
